How to read EPUB files
EPUB is a standard ebook format. You can read it with the built-in reader on many devices or with a free reading app.
Kindle devices and the Kindle app
Send to Kindle on the web
- Download the EPUB from your receipt or Purchased Downloads page.
- Open Amazon Send to Kindle and sign in to your Amazon account.
- Upload the EPUB, choose the destination for your book, and send it.
- Sync your Kindle device or app. The book should appear in your library.
Send to Kindle by email
Amazon also lets you email compatible documents to your Kindle library. Visit Send to Kindle — Email to view the email option and instructions for your account. Attach the downloaded EPUB to a new email and follow Amazon’s directions for the recipient address and approved sender.
iPhone and iPad — Apple Books
- Send the EPUB to your device with AirDrop, Mail, iCloud Drive, or the Files app.
- Tap the file and choose Open in Books.
- The book will be added to your Apple Books library.
Mac — Apple Books
Download the EPUB, then double-click it or drag it into the Books app. It will be added to your library.
Android — Google Play Books
- Open Google Play Books and upload the EPUB.
- Refresh your library in the Play Books app. The book will appear under your uploaded books.
Kobo
Use Add books in the Kobo Desktop app, or connect your Kobo by USB and copy the EPUB to the device. Eject or sync the device to add the book to your library.
Other EPUB readers
Other popular readers include Calibre, Thorium Reader, FBReader, and Moon+ Reader. Most reading apps can open an EPUB directly from local storage or a cloud drive.
